For four magical nights, the distinctive peak of Roseberry Topping will be transformed into a spectacular outdoor art event, in celebration of the myths surrounding the North York Moors landmark.
The name of the hill, originally Odin's bjarg from the Old Norse meaning 'Odin's rock or crag', has evolved over the years to Othensberg, Ohenseberg, Ounsberry and Ouesberry before finally becoming Roseberry. Topping comes from the Norse for 'hill'.
So, Redcar and Cleveland Council, Culture 10, the National Trust and the North York Moors National Park Authority have come together to mark the historic and cultural importance of the hill.
Magnetic Events will bring Nordic myths and legends to life with nine specially commissioned installations, including performance, dance, music, art and light.
All of this will be going on beneath the dramatic illuminated peak, in Newton under Roseberry, which will also be host to several community events.
Roseberry Topping will become a work of art this month, while a range of outdoor installations are displayed at its foot, in Newton under Roseberry.
